Mt. Adams Institute (MAI) is a nonprofit organization based in the rural community of Trout Lake, Washington with a mission of strengthening the connection between people and the natural world through education, service learning, career development, and research. MAI’s annual budget supports a staff of eleven and up to 75 AmeriCorps members.  

MAI’s programs serve youth, adults, veterans and families in a variety of formats that embraces equity, diversity and inclusion. MAI is working to create opportunities to connect individuals with the natural world and to support those who are historically underrepresented in the outdoor recreation and natural resource career fields. 

The Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for capturing the mission of our organization and communicating it to the community, through multimedia. This position will collect and curate stories that highlight the impact of our programs, participants, and partners. The Outreach Coordinator will:  

  • Work with all staff and stakeholders to produce compelling content that draws people closer to our mission and speaks to diverse audiences.  
  • Be responsible for raising awareness of the organization and its programs activities, as a means to increase its participants, partners and donors.  
  • Manage media relations and communications to donors, participants and the public.  
  • Manage the MAI brand (document development, media templates). 

 

We are looking for a creative individual who is invested in our mission and wants to be a part of our dedicated team.  They should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be highly organized and detail oriented, and be able to juggle many tasks and priorities simultaneously. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

Outreach & Marketing 

  • Collect, develop and curate engaging content about MAI programs on various media platforms. 
  • Collaborate with all staff to create marketing materials that increase interest / participation in and support of our programs. 
  • Collaborate with staff to develop and support an organizational communications plan. 
  • Develop methods for encouraging and collecting photos, videos and compelling stories from our program participants. 
  • Curate participant content to raise awareness for recruiting purposes and attracting new partners and donors. 

Brand & Media Management 

  • Effectively utilize and manage MAI brand in all internal and external communications, branded templates, PowerPoints, digital postings, etc. 
  • Coordinate & maintain MAI WordPress website, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn pages.  
  • Explore and advise on other effective digital platforms. 
  • Utilize data to measure effectiveness of marketing efforts. 
  • Create media and marketing materials for all MAI programming. 
  • Develop, write and distribute press releases, feature stories, PSAs, Letters to the Editor and advertisements to print and radio media. 
  • Collect quality photos and videos to use on our website, print media and social media. 
  • Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of e-newsletters, brochures, and reports.  

Donor Relations  

  • Assist Executive Director with fundraising strategies to support organizational needs, including the annual giving campaign.  
  • Manage donor tracking, recognition and relationship building.  
  • Create publications, newsletters and materials such as, flyers, invitations, brochures, etc. 
  • Represent the organization at events and promotions, including speaking engagements.  
  • Coordinate End of Year Impact Report and other fundraising campaigns. 
  • Serve on the Development board committee.  

Sense of Place (SOP) Program Support  

  • Collaborate with the host to create marketing strategies and communications of the lecture series. 
  • Coordinate administrative functions of the program (procedures, budget, contracts, invoices, ticket sales). 
  • Coordinate day-of-event logistics: volunteers, ticketing, tabling and other front of house duties. 

Other Duties 

  • Lead media trainings at all AmeriCorps Intern orientations and encourage participation in virtual platforms that ensures a dynamic and connected participant community. 
  • Assist staff with the implementation of Intern orientations, trainings, and graduations. 
  • Participate in staff meetings, retreats, program reviews, board meetings and other staff functions. 
  • Other duties that are applicable to position may be assigned 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION 

  • At least three years of experience in outreach and marketing. 
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field, OR any combination of experience and education that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and ability to perform the tasks associated with this role. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience with AmeriCorps, military, public lands agencies and/ or education organizations. 
  • Knowledge of program development related to equity, diversity and inclusion. 
  • Experience working in the conservation field. 
  • Experience working in rural communities. 
  • Experience supervising and managing people and providing conflict resolution. 
  • Experience with event planning. 
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and implement professional and skill-based training programs. 
  • Demonstrated excellence in building and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships with staff, Interns and partners. 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS 

  • Salary: $50,113 (1 FTE) 
  • Full-time – Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Exempt position

  • Position contingent upon receipt of funding on an annual basis through organization revenue and grant(s).
