Event and Hospitality Professional
Hawkins Cellars is an established and growing winery located on Underwood Mountain in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Founded in 2007, we focus on award-winning, premium quality wines matched only by our commitment to outstanding hospitality. As a small winery, applicants should expect to wear multiple hats and contribute to success at every level of the customer experience, with an emphasis on events, hospitality and direct-to-consumer sales.
Events and Marketing
Responsibilities:
- Help coordinate, market and work tasting room and wine club events. Pour tastings both onsite in Underwood as well as off site tastings to increase brand awareness
- Manage vendors, customers and logistics to deliver compelling events including wine club releases, club member parties, off-site wine events, winemaker dinners, and more as required
- Work with Owners and DTC manager to implement new marketing initiatives and manage our CRM marketing databases, including email lists
- Submit wines to award competitions as requested by winemaker
Underwood Tasting Room & Hospitality
Work in the Underwood tasting room two to three days a week, depending upon the season. Responsibilities include:
- Provide warm, engaging and professional customer service and go the extra mile for all guests
- Lead guests through wine tasting flights – educating them about the winery story, wines, and brand. Ensure a fun and memorable customer experience
- Work towards developing relationships with guests to convert into Wine Club members
- Effectively suggest and sell wine, offer wine club membership, and upsell
- Set up / break down all indoor and outdoor tasting room spaces.
- Open and verify condition of wines
- Open/Close POS system/registers.
- Manage cash drawer
- Stock wine and merchandise on Tasting Room floor and store rooms
- Perform sales transactions
- Maintain clean and organized guest spaces at all times
- Actively continue education in wine production, viticulture, and winery history
- Represent the winery at outside functions when necessary
- Quickly recognize the signs that a guest should not be served alcohol and take appropriate action to professionally address the situation.
- Behave in a professional and mature manner at all times
Wine Club
Responsibilities:
- Work with DTC Manager and staff to implement and execute strategies to increase club sign-ups and retention
- Assist DTC manager in executing wine club releases
- Respond to customer service calls and emails in a friendly and professional way
Expectations and other Requirements:
- Two years in event management or similar with an emphasis on hospitality
- Strong ability to sell wine and various club memberships to all types of customers
- Experience in winery/restaurant/retail/hospitality settings
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Must possess or have ability to acquire a Wine service and Food Handlers Licenses
- Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced hospitality environment
- Educational certification such as WSET1 or WSET2 a strong plus
- Must have some knowledge of wine and food with enthusiasm to expand knowledge base and learn new information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (via telephone, e-mail and face-to-face) are required
- Enthusiastic, passionate and dynamic communication style
- Comfortable speaking in front of crowds
- Must be a self-starter and able to work independently
- Must have a positive attitude and outlook with the ability to work within a team atmosphere
- Must be able to work weekends
- Access to a vehicle a plus
- Must be 21 years of age
Compensation is salaried (pay depending on experience), plus tips and a generous bonus schedule. This is a full-time position, however there is an option of moving down to three quarters time during our slower season.
