Position Description
Mill A School District is seeking a dependable and student-centered Cook to support the daily operation of the district’s nutrition services program. This position is responsible for preparing and serving breakfast and lunch, maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen, assisting with food-preparation records, supporting inventory needs, and helping to ensure meals are served safely, efficiently, and with care.
The successful candidate will enjoy working around children, take pride in preparing quality meals, and be able to work independently while also contributing positively to a small school team.
Essential Responsibilities
Responsibilities include preparing and serving breakfast and lunch; following planned menus, recipes, portion guidance, and food safety procedures; maintaining food temperature and production records; cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, work areas, serving areas, and cafeteria spaces; assisting with inventory and supply needs; operating commercial kitchen equipment safely; supporting meal service setup and cleanup; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, hold or be able to obtain a current Washington State Food Worker Card, pass required background checks, and have the physical ability and stamina to perform kitchen work, including standing for extended periods and lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, and cleaning as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in school food service, institutional food service, restaurant, catering, or a similar kitchen setting is preferred. Experience preparing meals in quantity, using commercial kitchen equipment, and maintaining food service records is also preferred.
